Dr. Paul Grove

Education

Ph.D, University of Arizona.

Dr. Paul Grove has been praised by audiences, critics, composers, and teachers as an outstanding performer and teacher on the classical guitar.  Having begun the study of the guitar at the age of ten in Philadelphia at the Settlement Music School, Paul went on to receive Musical Fund Society and Rotary Club Grants to study at the internationally recognized Peabody Conservatory while still in high school.  There he began study with the renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco, and he was the first guitarist to win the prestigious Peabody Concours Competition.

Dr. Grove studied many years with the Dean of American guitar instruction: Aaron Shearer. These years produced an assisting collaboration with Dr. Shearer on the highly-influential text “Learning the Classic Guitar” and the acknowledgment from Dr. Shearer of being the first recipient of a Master's degree in pedagogy in his renowned system.  In addition to Dr. Shearer, Paul has been mentored by North America's esteemed pedagogue Tom Patterson.  In addition to study, he has collaborated with international composers such as Sir Michael Tippett (Great Britain), Guenther Schuller (Boston, USA), Marlos Nobre (Brazil), Dan Asia (Tucson, USA).
