Biographical Description: Dr. Kathie Yerion has taught mathematics and computer science at Gonzaga University for 36 years. In her teaching, she specializes in courses in advanced algorithms, computer graphics, computational modeling, and chaos and dynamical systems. In her research, she specializes in numerical algorithms for approximating solutions to nonlinear partial differential equations. Her most recent research publication involves a computational algorithm for a model of pattern formation in animal skins. She has adapted the algorithm for teaching modules in computer science courses in advanced algorithms and mathematics/engineering courses in numerical methods. The details of these teaching modules have been published in journals of computing and mechanical engineering education. She has also been involved in efforts to add modules involving algorithmic art and robots in introductory computer science courses.
