Biographical Description: Dr. Bowers has over 15 years of experience in computer science research and development and has been involved in a number of projects funded by the National Science Foundation that focus on applying database and data analysis techniques to information and process management problems in biology, ecology, and biodiversity science.  His recent research is focused on developing approaches for exploring and querying data provenance, leveraging ontologies and semantic web technology to improve data discovery and integration of scientific data, and optimizing the execution time of scientific workflows represented as dataflow process networks. Dr. Bowers holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the OGI School of Science and Engineering at OHSU and a B.S. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Oregon. Prior to joining Gonzaga University, he was an Associate Project Scientist at the UC Davis Genome Center and was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UC San Diego.
