Eric Cunningham
Research
My primary areas of
research include modern Japanese intellectual history, Zen Buddhism,
Catholicism, eschatology, the history of consciousness, and psychedelia.
My long range (general) scholarly goal is to discover and
illuminate the deeper patterns of connectedness between Catholic
Christianity and the various strands of ancient esoteric traditions and
modern "spirituality" worldwide.
My long range (specific) goals include translating the historical philosophical works of Nishida Kitaro and pursuing comparative studies of Zen Buddhism, Christian hermeticism, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, and the Path of Knowledge of Rudolf Steiner.
